I have always loved Talking Heads since I first heard a bootleg of Psycho Killer from CBGB's. This film has all the esence and creativity of Talking Heads and I can't watch it enough. The entire sound track is on my iPhone and I listen to it frequently in my car.Check out my newest Thriller - Bound By Birth - by Randall R WheelerBound By Birth
A dvd Talking Heads fans must have in their collection and HIGHLY recommend to all music lovers. At very least rent it if you don't want to spend money because it'll make you feel good.
It was absolutely breathtaking stuff from every angle. It was impossible to watch and listen without trying out all of David Byrne's great moves.
I waited for this to be released on Netflix forever and don't regret a day of waiting. Yes I heard Talking Heads during their hayday.
OMG. Well, it turned out to be a crazy dance party for one.
No, I really didn't start to "get it" until recent years. This DVD is just phenomenol, though, and makes me grieve the years I wasn't a fan.I was ready to call it a night last night and decided to curl up on the couch w/ this flick instead.
I sang and whirled and screamed out accolades for great filming, harmonies, lighting and effects. I have to purchase this now and it will become my most loved "dance video".
The wide screen and re-mastered version is breathtaking. An absolutely visceral experience. Stunning.
Speeding it up by about 30% was a mistake, and the tune lost the thing that made it what it originally was.I recently heard that one of our local PBS stations is going to air this concert DVD during a fundraiser. I was especially disappointed by the arrangement of "Take Me To The River".
I usually rate tunes by my impression the first time I listen to them or to a new arrangment. Not being a huge Talking Heads fan, I found many of the songs uneventful, and the stage effects a bit distracting.
Most of the reviews have been raves. The entire show seemed to be just a showcase for David Byrne to putz around on stage.
Some of the lighting effects seemed like updated versions of 60s psychedelic for the kids who weren't old enough to have seen it. I'm an old musician, so I like to see the musicians more than the staging.
I really liked the tempo of the original version - it had a grindingly soulful sound to it. I wish I'd waited to hear it there first - I wouldn't have bought a copy.
